Incident Type String

Incident Type String

Purpose

The purpose of the Incident Type String is to automatically assign a callout icon based on what the dispatch message says. So, whenever a CAD message enters the system, the system will look at the message and assign an icon based on the wording of the message.

In the Incident Type String section, you can create “strings” that will tell the system what icons to assign to certain messages. So, whatever text you enter into the Type String section, the system will scan the CAD message for those words, either exact or similar, and it will automatically assign an icon for it.

Add/Edit Type String

  1. Past Dispatch Messages – Shows past messages so you can base the ‘Type String’ off of actual data.
  2. Type String – the text you want the system to scan for when the CAD message is entered into the system.
  3. Match – Allows you to specify an Exact Match, where the ‘Type String’ must match the dispatch message exactly, or a Similar Match, where the ‘Type String’ must match part of the dispatch message:
    1. E.g. for ‘Public Hazard:Power Line’
    2. For an Exact Match, the type string must be ‘Public Hazard:Power Line’
    3. For a Similar Match, the type string could be anything that mixes with the message. ‘Public Hazard’, ‘Power Line’ etc.
  4. Risk – can assign a risk level to the String based on its hazard level or risk level
  5. Icon Association – when in the Dispatch Messages section, this will be the icon associated to the incident based on the string you have entered.

On the ‘Callouts’ or ‘Dispatch Messages’ pages, there’s the ‘Call Type’ section. This has a default icon (usually the Red Bell).  Adding an incident type string means that if the dispatch message matches the string, it will have that icon you chose to associate to it. Otherwise, it will have the default type.

Example

Incident Type String:
  1. Icon: Dog
  2. Type String: Animal Rescue
  3. Match: Similar Match
  4. Risk: Low
Dispatch Message:

‘Animal Rescue: Dog Stuck in tree: 2611 Development Drive, Brockville, ON’

Incident/Call Type would automatically be set to the ‘Dog’ icon/call type, as it matches that string.
